A lug type butterfly valve is a type of quarter-turn valve that is used to control the flow of fluids in a piping system. It is called a "lug" type because it has threaded inserts, or "lugs," on either side of the valve body, which allow it to be mounted to the piping system using bolts and nuts.
The valve operates by turning a disc-shaped closure element, called a "butterfly," around its axis to control the flow of fluid. When the butterfly is turned perpendicular to the flow direction, it blocks the flow completely. When it is turned parallel to the flow direction, the fluid can flow through the valve.
